Why Group Therapy?

In addition to individual, couple, and family psychotherapy I also offer several groups.

Group psychotherapy has been found to significantly decrease depression (1), anxiety (2), and reduce symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (3).

Group therapy has also exceeded APA Div. 12 standards for efficacy for bipolar disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and substance use.

Some other benefits of group therapy are:

  • Realize you’re not alone in your struggle

  • Have the chance to give and receive support

  • Raise your confidence

  • Strengthen skills such as communication and connecting with others

  • Build a community

  • Peer interactions (a powerful factor in group therapy) (4)

Addiction and Recovery Group

This group is optimal for those seeking support as they navigate early and long-term recovery from addiction. The purpose of this group is to provide community support, clinical education and skill sets, and access to working with an addiction specialist. This group is a great fit for you if:

  • You have been in recovery long-term and are noticing some past behaviors or thought re-emerging that are disturbing or worrying to you

  • You need a safe place in your life to talk about your addiction/recovery (you don’t feel like you have any supports who understand this part of yourself)

  • You are in early recovery and desire some additional support

  • You are interested in making more friends/supports who are sober but don’t know how, or where to meet these people

  • You want to learn how to navigate more of the clinical vagaries that are not discussed in groups such as AA (also a great support): such as how to mend the impact that addiction has had on family and relationships, how to deal with daily triggers, how to enjoy the same things you used to as a sober person, etc.

Meditation and Mindfulness Group

Has meditation or mindfulness ever been suggested to you before, only you couldn’t get into it, or felt like it wasn’t working like it should? Beginning a meditation journey and incorporating mindfulness skills on one’s own can be daunting and confusing; join a community of peers as we learn, explore, and deepen our practice of meditation and mindfulness. We will discuss enlightening topics designed to stimulate the mind, learn the science behind the spirituality, and put into practice the skills that can begin a lifelong practice of peace.

growth through yoga & movement Group

Growth Through Yoga offers the unique and integrative experience to process inner pain through both talk and movement. Stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma often live inside the body in the form of stomach aches, sore muscles, headaches, and clenched jaws. Growth comes from the exploration of a different topic each week through a dynamic mixture of conversation and paired movement meant to stimulate emotional release. This is a unique experience in that it joins together the clinical aspects of a psychotherapy session with the healing postures of yoga. Join the community!
